Strengthen the core
Modernised infrastructure and dependable connectivity created a stable base for progress.
How a reliable, secure digital environment helped technology move from barrier to everyday enabler.
Safeguarding. Accessibility. Teaching and learning. Even meeting DfE standards.
At Gorsemoor Primary School, there was a real ambition to use technology to enhance learning, support different needs across the classroom, and create a more inclusive environment for pupils. But the infrastructure behind it wasn’t keeping up.
Connectivity was inconsistent. Systems weren’t always reliable. Staff couldn’t depend on the technology being there when they needed it. What should have been an enabler was becoming a barrier.
“We can be ambitious with the digital pedagogy we’ve got, but if the Wi-Fi isn’t supporting that, or the infrastructure doesn’t have the same capacity, then that’s where we need to begin.”

01 · Rebuild the foundations
Gorsemoor recognised that meaningful change wouldn’t come from layering more tools on top. It had to start with getting the basics right.
That meant creating an IT environment that was:
Rather than continuing to work around those limitations, the school invested in a long-term solution - modernising infrastructure, improving reliability, and creating a platform that could properly support staff and pupils.
“There was a real want to take advantage of the technology in the school. They had a really strong lead for it, but the technology was behind where they wanted to be.”
02 · Make change manageable
A full IT transformation strengthened infrastructure, improved connectivity, modernised systems, and created a stable environment aligned with DfE expectations.
Modernised infrastructure and dependable connectivity created a stable base for progress.
Clear communication helped staff understand the process and feel comfortable with change.
A dedicated Customer Experience Manager provided one consistent point of contact throughout.
“What’s really nice about Concero is, we have our CXM… having that key person that sort of project manages everything as well as those termly meetings.”
“It’s all about communication: recognising the fear, making sure people feel comfortable, know the process, and have the training to support it.”
With Abbie Elson as Customer Experience Manager, the school had a consistent point of contact to guide the transition, maintain communication, and ensure staff felt supported. That joined-up approach turned what could have felt disruptive into something collaborative and manageable.
03 · Remove barriers
With the foundations in place, the impact across the school has been immediate. Technology is no longer something staff have to work around; it’s something they can rely on.
Staff can now use built-in accessibility tools to support pupils in real time - reducing workload while improving outcomes, particularly for pupils with SEND.
Technology is helping create learning environments that are more flexible, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs.
04 · Feel the difference
The biggest change is felt in everyday teaching. Pupils can engage with learning in ways that suit them, while teachers can plan with confidence that the tools will work when needed.
Reliable technology has become part of everyday learning, enabling staff to focus on teaching rather than troubleshooting.
It’s brilliant. It aids children, especially children who have additional needs. It’s a surprise if it doesn’t work now, whereas before you were surprised if it did work.
Being able to bring confidence and reliability means teachers can plan a lesson with IT and know they've got the tools they need. That is really effective.
A stronger platform for what comes next
By focusing on secure, reliable infrastructure aligned with DfE standards, Gorsemoor has created an environment where technology can genuinely support teaching, learning, accessibility, and inclusion.
“We can start to focus back on the curriculum and the pedagogy behind it… I can talk more about teaching and learning and a little bit less about the wiring.”
Your school. Your next step.
